Development of Industrial Estates

This is the core activity of the Corporation. The SICOP has contributed significantly in creating the basic infrastructure for the SSI units. The Corporation has developed seven industrial estates spread over an area of 3489 kanal which have been provoded with facilities like power supply, water supply, roads and drains etc. These estates are located at Zainakote, Zakura & Bijbehara in Kashmir Division and Gangyal, Birpur, Kathua and Udhampur in Jammu Division.

The Industrial Estates have provided an opportunity to more than 1000 numbers of SSI units to establish their industry in these estates. A full fledged engineering wing exists in the Corporation to exclusively look after the affairs of these estates.

The Corporation is developing new Industrial sites at the following places under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes:

1. Integrated Infrastructure Development Centre (IID) Govindsor Kathua, over 579 kanals.
2. Silk Tech & Handicraft Park at Industrial Estate Zakura, over 109 kanals.

The total employment generation by the units in the industrial estate managed by SICOP is of the order of arround 5500 persons directly.


A vast variety of industries have come up in these estates that includes iron & steel based , wood based, plastic based, ferrous and non-ferrous, food based, textiles, cement based etc.


The Development of Industrial Estates is undertaken by the Project Wing of the Corporation. The Industries & Commerce department acquires the land through Revenue Department and subsequently transfers the same to SICOP for development. The allotment of land in these estates is guided by the State Industrial Policy and all allotment are made by the concerned Single Window Committee headed by the District Development Commissioners of the Districts. The possession of land allotted by SWC is handed over to the allottees after, fulfillment of certain formalities and payment of requisite premium and ground rent. The entrepreneur is required to take effective steps including execution if lease deed for establishment of his unit by way of construction of factory shed thereafter.
