Implementation of Mega Carpet Cluster Development Scheme of Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India by JK SICOP

- The Government of India sanctioned a scheme relating to replacement of traditional wooden carpet looms with modern Steel carpet looms in the State of Jammu and Kashmir under Mega Carpet Cluster Development Scheme of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The scheme has to cover around 40000 artisans in phased manner. Initially, the scheme has been envisaged to benefit 8000 carpet artisans (2000 in phase-I remaining 6000 in phase-II).

The Scheme envisages manufacture and distribution of 2000 looms in Phase-I and the remaining 6000 looms in Phase-II amongst Carpet weavers of J&K State identified by the Handicraft Department, J&K Govt. the looms are being manufactured and supplied by SSI units registered both with Directorates Industries and Commerce and SICOP.

The J&K Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (SICOP), J&K Govt. Undertaking; has been designated Nodal Agency for the purpose. The approved funding pattern envisaged between the GOI and the State Government for meeting the costs is in the ratio of 80:20 subject to maximum contribution of Rs. 40,000/- per Loom by Govt. of India. The looms are being installed at benefiesries sites for of cost.

The SICOP so far has manufactured and distributed around 6000 looms among the various artisans of state.
